Red-State Generosity

Richard Hamman is a retired farmer who lives in a small town in Iowa - Anthon, population 650. This Christmas, he gave his neighbors a unique gift:
The Hamanns doled out $25,000 to pay the town's electricity bills - all due on Dec. 25.I spend so much time dwelling on bad news and stories about evil people that it's easy to forget that there are genuinely decent people in the world. To borrow a line from the best Christmas movie ever, Christmas is the time when we become the people we wish we could be.
Hamann, 75, sees the gift as returning a good deed.
``The Lord has been very good to us and so have the people of this community, so I always thought we ought to be doing something in return if we could,'' he said Monday.
Amen.
